How To Choose the Best Entertainment Center (So You Can Enjoy Your Favorite Shows)

Whether you’re cozying up with some blankets and a hot drink to watch the big game, your favorite HGTV decorating show, or the newest binge-worthy Netflix feature, one thing remains the same: you need somewhere to set up your TV! The right entertainment center or media console can enhance your home theater experience, so you’ll be able to enjoy whatever you like to watch as comfortably as possible (no neck-craning necessary).

The perfect television stand should complement your needs as well as provide support and stability for your television. Ideally, it should also add some aesthetic appeal to your space! Before you make your decision, there are a few things you’ll want to consider.

Time

How often and how long do you usually use your television? If you spend a lot of time watching HGTV or back-to-back sports events, or even playing video games, you’ll want an entertainment center that really adds appeal and functionality to your space. If you’re a more casual TV-watcher, a smaller entertainment center with fewer features will probably do the trick!

Size

The size of your TV and of your room are both important things to consider when choosing a stand. Ideally, your stand or entertainment center should be wider (we recommend at least 2-5 inches) than the total width of your television and equipped to handle the weight. This ensures that your TV has a sturdy base and will help prevent it from tipping over or getting damaged. If you don’t know the size of your television, make sure to measure it before you head out to buy your stand!

As for your room, the entertainment center will look better when you choose a size that complements your space. A large room can benefit from a large media stand (and a large TV), whereas a smaller room might require a more efficient use of space.

Storage

Consider what you’ll be putting on or in the entertainment center. If all you have is a couple pieces of equipment, you can get away with a smaller, more compact stand. However, if you have a lot of equipment, such as an A/V receiver, movie players, game systems, speakers, and other boxes, it’s important to provide enough space for them to breathe so they don’t overheat. If you have a substantial movie and/or game collection as well, you’ll need somewhere to put them, and a big entertainment center is a great place to start!

Once you have your TV all set up on your entertainment center, you’re all ready to set up with a bowl of popcorn and your favorite shows. What will you be watching?
